Vulcain were famous for their alarm movements from the 1940’s to the 1980’s. They were loud and reliable. This watch has an ingenious and simple method of operation. The winding crown turned clockwise winds up the alarm mechanism. The crown wound anti clockwise winds up the watch mainspring. The crown also sets the hands when pulled out to the first position. The alarm setting is operated by pressing the button at the 2 position, this releases the winding crown to a second position, which when turned, allows you to set the alarm indicator (the red arrow tipped hand). When the desired time is selected, you press the crown back in. The alarm will then sound on cue and is loud enough to wake you up from sleep. To cut the alarm, simply press the button at 2. The back has large cuts in it and is raised to allow for sound resonance.
